Pancreatic Surgery Treatment in Hyderabad
Pancreas is an organ lying on the spinal column in the upper abdomen behind the stomach. It has 4 parts-Head,neck,body and tail. Pancreas is responsible for secretion of Insulin which prevents Diabetes and secretes enzymes which are required for digestion of food.
Acute and chronic pancreatitis are inflammatory conditions which require treatment. Alcohol and gall stones are the commonest causes of Acute Pancreatitis. Here the treatment is medical , only rarely requiring surgery as in Necrotizing Pancreatitis. A complication of Acute Pancreatitis- Pseudocyst ,requires a drainage procedure which is done either by Lap or Robotic surgery
Chronic Pancreatitis is a condition where the pancreas becomes hard with calculi in the ductal system and decreased secretion of Insulin and enzymes leading to Diabetes and malnutrition. I operate on these cases and create a drainage system to relieve the pressure and restore the function, by a procedure called Lateral Pancreatico- jejunostomy. I have done over 400 such cases with very good results
Cancer of the Pancreas involves treatment of tumors from head, body and tail. Tumors in the body and tail present late and have a poor prognosis. Whereas tumors in the head of pancreas present early hence are amenable for surgery with good survival. The procedure is Whipples Pancrearico-duodenectomy. I have done 127 cases with very good result.
